Project Tech Support:
What We Do: Project Tech Support is a randomized control study to assess the impact of an 8-week, gay-specific, theory-based text messaging intervention designed to decrease methamphetamine use and HIV sexual risk behavior and, for HIV-infected participants, simultaneously increase HIV antiretroviral treatment/adherence in out-of-treatment, methamphetamine-using gay and bisexual men, and other men who have sex with men. Eligible and interested participants are randomized into one of three groups: Group 1: five automated text messages per day, one weekly text survey, and the opportunity to engage in unlimited text-messaging conversations with Peer Health Educators; or, Group 2: the same five automated text messages per day and one weekly text survey; or, Group 3: one weekly text survey with no text messages. Each group (1, 2 and 3) is 8-weeks. Participation also includes an initial assessment, brief monthly updates, and 4 follow-up assessments all at the study site in Hollywood. Participants may earn up to $310 in gift cards.
